The Story of the MIT Blackjack Team

What is the first thing you think of when people say MIT? A prestigious education institution, right? But, one of the main reasons why the world knows MIT is because of the infamous MIT Blackjack team which made a killing off Las Vegas casinos.

The MIT Blackjack team started off as a club which used their genius to unwind and have some fun. This club eventually turned into a serious job. The team had an underground system of mock-up casinos spanning warehouses, apartments and even classrooms scattered all over Boston where they worked on perfecting their scheme. Before going on to an actual casino, they had to pass a number of tests in simulated casino situations including harassment and distraction.

Card counting is a winning system which always works when done right. If you can master this skill, you will be able to beat the house consistently.

The MIT blackjack team relied on card counting to get the job done for them. It was just one of the tools they had though. This was not your regular card counting. It added high-low systems, and additional techniques for cutting cards which skewed the odds even more in their favor.

Team members always travelled together but treated each other as strangers. Everyone assumed fake identities and the teams included several different types of players, each with defined and different roles. Anonymous investors offered them a stake and got a decent return on their investment.

They reigned over Las Vegas casinos for a majority of the 90s and one of the main reasons for this is because casino technology wasn’t at the stage it is today. If you tried card counting in Las Vegas casinos today, you won’t get too far. But, you could get away with a few tries so maybe you could consider giving it a shot.
